Patreon Image Sizes: Profile, Cover & Post Dimensions (2026)
Patreon publishes a recommended size for every image slot on a creator page — a 1024x1024 profile picture, a 2500x1000 cover photo, and 1920x1080 post images. The numbers below are Patreon’s own recommendations, with the two constraints that actually bite: the cover photo has a 3MB file cap, and your feed displays everything in 16:9.
Patreon image sizes at a glance
| Image | Dimensions | Aspect Ratio | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Profile picture | 1024 x 1024 | 1:1 | Max 16MB; the image the Patreon app shows in place of your cover |
| Cover photo | 2500 x 1000 | 2.5:1 | JPEG or PNG, 3MB or less; keep key visuals in the right half |
| Hero image (legacy page) | 1600 x 400 | 4:1 | The old cover slot; displays at 1600x400 max, 16MB limit |
| Post image (feed) | 1920 x 1080 | 16:9 | Anything not 16:9 shows bars on the sides in the feed |
| Inline image (in a text post) | 1920 x 1080 | 16:9 | Same spec as gallery images; also the size to use in welcome notes |
| Video thumbnail | 1280 x 720 | 16:9 | Same shape as a YouTube thumbnail — one export covers both |
| Tier image | 460 x 200 | 2.3:1 | Small and wide — a mark or product shot reads better than text |
| Collection cover | 1024 x 1024 | 1:1 | Matches the profile picture size so the 1:1 set stays consistent |
| Digital product hero | 400 x 400 | 1:1 | The thumbnail for a paid digital product |
| Digital product image | 984 x 554 | 16:9 | Supporting images on the product page |
| Drops cover image | 1080 x 810 | 4:3 | The only 4:3 slot on Patreon |
Patreon accepts uploads at any dimensions and optimizes them for each device — these are recommendations, not hard rules. The ratios matter more than the pixel counts, because that is what determines how much of your image survives the crop.

Patreon profile picture size
Patreon recommends a square profile image of 1024x1024 pixels, and the file must be 16MB or less. It follows you everywhere on the platform — your page, your posts, comments, and member emails — so it is the single most-seen image you upload. Note that you can only change it on the Patreon website; the mobile app has no option for it.
| Recommended size | 1024 x 1024 px (1:1) |
| Max file size | 16MB |
| Where to change it | Settings → Basics → click your current picture (web only) |
| Match it with | Collection covers, also 1024 x 1024, for a consistent 1:1 set |
- It carries the whole page in the app. The Patreon mobile app shows your profile photo instead of your cover image, so if most of your traffic is on a phone, this is your banner.
- Upload a square. A non-square file gets cropped to 1:1, and you have less control over what survives than if you crop it yourself first.
- It renders small. Next to a post or comment it is a few dozen pixels wide. A face or a bold mark reads; a detailed illustration with fine text does not.
- Keep the 1:1 family consistent. Patreon suggests using one size across all your square slots — profile picture and collection covers at 1024x1024 — so the set looks deliberate.
Patreon cover image dimensions
For the current page editor, Patreon recommends a cover photo of at least 2500x1000 pixels — a 2.5:1 letterbox — saved as JPEG or PNG at 3MB or less. That file cap is the part people miss: a 2500x1000 photo exported as PNG will usually blow past 3MB, so export photographic covers as JPEG and save PNG for flat-color artwork.
Patreon’s own design advice is to put your key visuals in the right half of the frame and avoid text, because your page title and About section are laid over the left side. After you upload, the editor lets you drag the corner handles to crop before you publish — but starting at the right ratio means the crop is a nudge, not a rescue.
| Cover photo (current editor) | At least 2500 x 1000 px (2.5:1) |
| Formats & file size | JPEG or PNG, 3MB or less |
| Hero image (legacy page) | 1600 x 400 px (4:1), 16MB limit; minimum 1200 x 675 |
| Safe placement | Right half of the frame — the title and About block sit on the left |
| Where to change it | Dashboard → Edit page → Details → Header → Upload cover photo |
- 2.5:1 and 4:1 are not the same shape. If your page still uses the legacy 1600x400 hero, a cover built at 2500x1000 loses its top and bottom to the crop. Keeping the essentials inside a centered 4:1 band lets one file serve both.
- Phone visitors may never see it. The Patreon app shows your profile photo in its place, so don’t put anything load-bearing — a call to action, a schedule, a price — only in the cover.
- Don’t duplicate your page title. It is already rendered over the left of the image in a font you don’t control, and two versions of your name fighting for the same space looks like a mistake.
- Design it at the target size. A 2500x1000 canvas in your editor of choice — see Canva image sizes for how to set a custom canvas — beats scaling a 4K export down and hoping it lands under 3MB.

Patreon post image sizes
Your post feed displays images in 16:9, so Patreon recommends 1920x1080 pixels for both image posts and images placed inline in a text post. Any other ratio still uploads fine — it just shows bars on the sides in the feed, which is the single most common reason a Patreon post looks unfinished.
Whatever you upload, the feed renders it no wider than about 1080 pixels. Members who click the image see it expand to your original upload, so a larger file is not wasted — it just doesn’t help the thumbnail. Patreon calls 1500–2500 px wide the safe band for anything you save for the web.
Other ratios that work on Patreon
| Style | Ratio | Recommended sizes |
|---|---|---|
| Taller than wide | 4:5 | 1500 x 1875 · 2500 x 3125 |
| Film strip | 1.9:1 | 1500 x 789 · 2500 x 1316 |
| Square | 1:1 | 1500 x 1500 · 2500 x 2500 |
These are Patreon’s suggested alternatives. They work well on other surfaces and in the expanded view — just expect side bars wherever the feed enforces 16:9.
- Video thumbnails are 1280x720. The same file works as a YouTube thumbnail, which is handy if you post the same video in both places.
- Attach the high-resolution file. Post images are optimized for the web, so if patrons are paying for print-quality art, add it as an attachment — uploads go up to 2GB per file, attachments up to 5GB, and you can add as many as you like.
- Pick one ratio per post. A gallery mixing 16:9 and 4:5 images makes the feed jump as members swipe through it.
- Selling elsewhere too? Product shots have different rules — see Etsy listing image sizes if the same artwork ends up in a shop.
Patreon thank-you page image
The thank-you screen a new member sees the moment they join is Patreon’s welcome note. You write it under Dashboard → Page details → Welcome notes, either one note for everyone or a different one per tier (free members included), and you can drop an image into the body of it. If you add a custom welcome video, it appears above the note.
Patreon does not publish a separate dimension for welcome-note images. They render as message-body images, so the inline post image size — 1920x1080, 16:9— is the right target. The same note is also sent to the new member as a confirmation email, so the image needs to survive being read on a phone: keep type large, and don’t hide anything essential in fine detail.
| Welcome note image | 1920 x 1080 px (16:9) — the inline post image spec |
| Also appears in | The membership confirmation email, and later under the member’s My Membership tab |
| Tier image beside it | 460 x 200 px (2.3:1) — the image on the tier card they just chose |
| Where to set it | Dashboard → Page details → Welcome notes |
- One image per tier is the point. Per-tier notes let a $20 patron see something a $3 patron doesn’t — a preview of the benefit they just unlocked does more work than a generic thank-you graphic.
- Leave it blank and Patreon fills it in. An empty welcome note falls back to a default Patreon message, so a plain note with one good image is a clear upgrade.
- Don’t put the password in the picture. If the note carries a discount code or a link, put it in the text where it can be copied — image text can’t be.

How to resize an image for Patreon
The resizer above runs entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded to a server. It is the fastest route from one source image to the whole set a creator page needs.
- Drop your image into the tool above (Patreon is preselected).
- Pick a size: Cover Photo for the 2500x1000 header, Profile Picture for the 1024x1024 avatar, or Post Image for 1920x1080.
- Drag inside the frame to reposition the crop — for the cover, pull your subject to the right so the page title doesn’t land on top of it.
- Click Download, or Download All Sizes to get the full Patreon set as a ZIP.
- Check the cover against 3MB. It is the one Patreon limit you can trip with a normal-looking export. JPEG for photos, PNG for flat color and text.
- Export once per shape, not once per platform. 1280x720 covers the Patreon video thumbnail and YouTube; 1024x1024 covers the profile picture and collection covers.
- Running a channel too? The banner rules there are stricter — see YouTube banner size for the TV-to-mobile safe zone.
Frequently Asked Questions
What size is a Patreon profile picture?
Patreon recommends a square profile image of 1024x1024 pixels, and the file must be 16MB or less. It appears everywhere you show up on Patreon, and the Patreon mobile app displays it in place of your cover image — so it does double duty on phones. You can only change it on the website, not in the app.
What size is a Patreon cover photo?
Patreon recommends a cover photo of at least 2500x1000 pixels (2.5:1) in JPEG or PNG, at 3MB or less. Keep key visuals in the right half and avoid text, because your page title and About section sit over the left side. Pages still on the legacy editor use a 1600x400 hero image instead, with a 16MB limit.
What is the best image size for a Patreon post?
Use 1920x1080 pixels (16:9) for image posts and for images placed inline in a text post — the post feed displays images in 16:9, so anything else shows bars on the sides. The feed renders images no wider than about 1080 pixels, but members who click through see your full-size upload.
What size is a Patreon tier image?
A Patreon tier image is 460x200 pixels, a 2.3:1 ratio. It is small and wide, so a product shot, a piece of your artwork, or a simple mark reads far better than a graphic with text on it.
What size should a Patreon thank-you page image be?
The thank-you screen new members see is Patreon’s welcome note, and Patreon publishes no separate size for images inside it. They behave like inline post images, so 1920x1080 (16:9) is the right target. The same note is emailed to the member as a confirmation, so keep any text large enough to read on a phone.
What are Patreon’s image file size limits?
The cover photo is capped at 3MB in the current page editor, and the profile picture at 16MB. Post uploads can be up to 2GB per file, and post attachments up to 5GB per file with no limit on how many you attach. The legacy hero image allows 16MB.
Does Patreon compress your images?
Patreon optimizes uploads for the web and for different devices, and the post feed shows images no wider than about 1080 pixels. Clicking an image expands it to the original upload, so quality is preserved. If patrons need a true high-resolution file, add it to the post as an attachment rather than relying on the feed image.
