Wix Image Sizes — Banner, Blog, Gallery & Product Dimensions

Heroes at 1920 x 1080, blog covers at 940 x 705 for most feed layouts, Pro Gallery uploads at 2560 x 1440, Wix Stores products at 3000 x 3000, and a favicon that has to be a multiple of 48px square. Everything you upload is re-encoded and re-cropped by Wix’s CDN for each device, so the source size — and where the subject sits in the frame — is the part you control.

* is ours. Wix publishes dimensions for blog covers, Pro Gallery media, background images, Wix Stores products, the og:image and the favicon — those are its numbers. It publishes nothing for a hero, a mobile-only image or a logo, so those three are our recommendations, and each section below says which is which. Uploads can be up to 50MB per image (15MB for a GIF), in JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, TIFF, BMP or RAW.

Wix Hero & Banner Image Size

A Wix hero fills a full-width section, so upload it at 1920x1080 pixels (16:9). That covers a standard desktop and gives Wix enough resolution to stay sharp when it generates the retina version. The bigger decision is how the image is placed: an image element takes the 1920px source, but if you set the same picture as a strip or page background, Wix asks for at least 3000 x 3000px — a background has to cover every viewport shape, not one fixed box.

Hero as an image element(16:9) — ours
Hero as a strip / page backgroundWix’s stated background minimum
Mobile safe zoneKeep text and subjects within the centered ~60% — the sides crop on phones
Max file size50MB per image, 15MB for a GIF; compress anything over 25MB before you upload
FormatsJPG for photos, PNG for graphics with text; Wix re-serves modern formats itself

Resize an image to 1920x1080 → Pick the “Hero / Banner” preset in the Wix platform, or “Page / Section Background” for the 3000 x 3000 version.

Wix Blog Post Featured Image Size

There is no single Wix blog cover size — the layout you chose for your feed sets it. Wix publishes a size per layout, and they share one width, 940 pixels, with the height changing to match the crop. Editorial, Side by Side and Slider feeds want 940 x 705 (4:3); Magazine and Classic want 940 x 940 (1:1); One Column wants a letterbox 940 x 400 (21:9). Upload at the size your layout uses, because the same file is re-cropped for the feed card, the post header and the Related Posts strip.

Cover image size by feed layout

Editorial, Side by Side, Slider(4:3)
Magazine, Classic(1:1)
One Column(21:9)
Tiled940 x 186 at the shortest to 940 x 1456 at the tallest — the tile decides

Images inside the postKeep them under 1000 x 1000 — Wix’s recommendation for body images
Share preview (og:image)(1.91:1), max 8MB
  • Switching feed layouts re-crops every cover you have already published. Move from Magazine to One Column and a set of square covers loses its top and bottom third. Decide the layout first, then shoot to its ratio.
  • The cover is not the share image. Wix recommends 1200 x 630 at a 1.91:1 ratio for og:image, so a 4:3 cover gets trimmed in a Facebook or LinkedIn preview. Set the social image separately for posts you plan to promote.
  • 940 is a display width, not a retina width. Upload at 2x (1880 x 1410 for a 4:3 cover) and let Wix downscale if your covers look soft on a high-density screen.
  • Body images are the opposite advice. Wix asks for under 1000 x 1000 inside a post — the content column is narrower than the cover, and every extra pixel is load time on a page people scroll.

Resize a cover to 940x705 → Pick the “Blog Cover (4:3 layouts)” preset, or “Blog Cover (Square layouts)” for Magazine and Classic. Weighing a move to WordPress? It fixes no blog cover size at all — your theme decides it.

Wix Product Image Size (Wix Stores)

Wix Stores asks for a lot more resolution than the rest of the site: the minimum recommended product photo is 3000x3000 pixels. That headroom exists because the product page lets shoppers zoom, and a smaller source falls apart the moment they magnify it. Wix supports 16:9, 3:2, 4:3, 1:1, 3:4, 2:3 and 9:16 for the product gallery, but 1:1 is the ratio Wix recommends for mobile — which is where most storefront traffic lands.

Minimum resolutionWix’s stated minimum
Supported ratios16:9, 3:2, 4:3, 1:1, 3:4, 2:3, 9:16
Best ratio for mobile1:1 (square) — Wix’s recommendation for phone viewing
Crop vs FitCrop makes every image the same size; Fit shows the whole image and keeps its original ratio, letterboxing the gaps
ConsistencyShoot and crop every product to the same ratio — mixed ratios are what makes a gallery look ragged under either setting

Resize a product image to 3000x3000 → Pick the “Product Image (Wix Stores)” preset in the Wix platform. Selling on more than one storefront? Compare the specs on Shopify and Etsy.

Wix Logo & Favicon Size

Wix publishes no logo dimension, because the header scales whatever you give it. Upload a PNG with a transparent background at around 250x100 pixels (or larger at the same proportions) so it stays sharp on retina headers. The favicon does have a rule: it must be square and a multiple of 48px — 48x48, 96x96 or 144x144 — unless you upload an SVG. Browsers and Google rescale it to 16x16, so a single high-contrast mark reads where a full wordmark turns to mush.

Logoours — PNG with transparency
Favicon1:1, a multiple of 48px
Favicon formatsICO, PNG, JPG or SVG; PNG if you want a transparent background
Favicon designCheck it at 16x16 — that is the size Google rescales it to in search results
Uploading an SVG logoWix caps SVG files at 250KB and rejects SVGs with embedded PNG or JPEG images inside them

Resize a favicon to 96x96 → Pick the “Favicon” preset in the Wix platform.

Wix Mobile Image Sizes & Crops

Mobile on Wix is a cropping problem, not a second upload. The same file serves every screen — Wix generates the device-sized versions itself — so what you control is which part of the frame survives. In the Studio Editor the mobile breakpoint covers 320 to 750px, tablet 751 to 1000px and desktop 1001px and up, and 320px is the narrowest screen you can design for. Changes cascade downward: edit at desktop and mobile inherits it, edit at mobile and desktop is untouched.

Mobile breakpoint320 – 750px wide (tablet 751 – 1000, desktop 1001+)
Image you add in the mobile editor(9:16) — ours, for a full-height phone section
Short mobile strip(4:3) — ours, for a banner-height section
Retina headroomA 390px-wide phone at 3x needs about 1170 real pixels — 1080px wide is the practical floor
Safe zoneCentered 60% of the width for a normal strip; centered third if the section runs full height

The arithmetic is worth knowing before you design a hero. Set a 16:9 image to fill a full-height phone section — roughly 390 x 700 CSS pixels — and it scales up until the height fits, which leaves about a third of its width visible. Drop the same image into a 390 x 300 banner strip and roughly three-quarters survives. That is the whole reason a headline baked into the corner of a hero disappears on phones.

  • Re-crop in the mobile view instead of re-uploading. The Wix Editor lets you crop an image differently on mobile, adjust its settings and animate it, all from the desktop original.
  • Backgrounds get their own mobile settings. A mobile page background can take its own scale — Fill, Fit, Tile or Stretch — and its own scroll effect, so a background that crops badly on a phone can be set to Fit without touching desktop.
  • In Studio, set a focal point per breakpoint. Wix keeps that point in frame as the image is resized, which beats guessing at a centered safe zone.
  • Images added in the mobile editor are fully editable. Ones carried over from desktop are not — their customisation is limited, so a mobile-only graphic is the cleaner route when the desktop crop cannot be made to work.
  • Do not upload a small file to make mobile faster. Wix already serves a device-sized version of the source; a small original just means desktop gets an upscaled blur.

Resize an image to 1080x1920 → Pick the “Mobile Section (9:16)” preset in the Wix platform, then drag to set which part of the frame is kept.

Designing in Canva for Wix? Here are the exact export sizes

Canva has no Wix template, so set the canvas yourself: Create a design Custom size, switch the unit to px, and enter one of these. Getting it right up front matters more on the free plan, where there is no Resize button to change it afterwards. Click a size to copy it.

Logo — export PNG with a transparent background

Export JPG for photography and PNG for type, flat colour or anything transparent. Do not bother converting to WebP or AVIF first — Wix re-encodes every upload for you, and the only ceilings you can hit are 50MB per image and 250KB for an SVG.

Or resize an image you already have → No account, no upload to a server.

Wix vs Squarespace vs Webflow Image Sizes

Moving a site between builders means re-cutting the assets, because each one asks for a different source and optimises it differently. Here is the same set of images across all three.

Wix is the only one of the three that publishes a size per placement. Squarespace states a single site-wide rule — upload 1500 to 2500px wide, under 500KB — and Webflow publishes no dimensions at all, so the per-asset figures in those two columns are working sizes from our guides rather than vendor specs. The Wix hero is ours too; every other Wix number here is Wix’s own.

Wix Image Optimization Tips

  • Let Wix handle the formats: Wix compresses uploads and re-serves them in modern formats through its CDN — AVIF among them, which it puts at roughly 50% smaller than WebP. Upload a clean JPG or PNG master and skip converting anything yourself.
  • Don’t upload at the displayed size: a hero that shows at 1920px wide needs at least a 1920px source. Upload smaller and it looks soft once Wix scales it up for retina screens.
  • Know whether it is an image or a background: Wix asks for at least 3000 x 3000px for background images and far less for an image element. The same photo needs a different source depending on how you place it.
  • Design hero text for the center: Wix re-crops full-width sections on tablet and mobile, trimming the sides. Keep headlines and subjects within the centered safe zone, or set a focal point per breakpoint in Studio.
  • Match the blog cover to your feed layout: 940 x 705 for Editorial and Side by Side, 940 x 940 for Magazine and Classic, 940 x 400 for One Column. Changing layout later re-crops every cover you have published.
  • Keep one aspect ratio per gallery: mixing portrait and landscape sources makes grid and masonry layouts look ragged. Crop the set to a single ratio before uploading, and leave gallery image quality at or below 90.
  • Product photos are the exception to “don’t go huge”: Wix Stores wants a 3000 x 3000 minimum because shoppers zoom. Everywhere else on the site, matching the display size is enough.
  • Compress before you hit the ceiling: uploads stop at 50MB per image and 15MB for a GIF, and Wix advises compressing anything over 25MB first. SVGs are capped at 250KB and cannot contain embedded PNG or JPEG data.
  • Use a simple favicon: at 16x16 a full logo turns to mush, and the file has to be a multiple of 48px square unless it is an SVG. Pick one letter or icon with strong contrast.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best image size for Wix?

It depends on where the image goes. Full-width hero and banner sections look best at 1920x1080 pixels (16:9), blog covers are 940x705 for Editorial and Side by Side feeds, Pro Gallery images should be at least 2560x1440, and background images need at least 3000x3000. Wix compresses every upload and serves a device-sized version, so always work from a source that’s as large as the spot where it’s displayed.

What size is a Wix banner image?

A Wix banner or hero placed as an image element should be 1920x1080 pixels (16:9). If you set the same picture as a strip or page background instead, Wix asks for at least 3000x3000 pixels, because a background has to cover every viewport shape. Either way, keep your text and main subject centered — Wix re-crops full-width sections on phones.

What is the Wix blog post image size?

The Wix blog cover size depends on your feed layout. Editorial, Side by Side and Slider layouts use 940x705 (4:3); Magazine and Classic use 940x940 (1:1); One Column uses 940x400 (21:9); Tiled runs from 940x186 to 940x1456. Images placed inside the post body should be under 1000x1000, and the Related Posts thumbnail is cropped from the cover at 288x162.

What size should a Wix gallery image be?

Upload gallery media at a minimum of 2560x1440 pixels. Wix galleries and the Pro Gallery crop to whatever grid, masonry or slider layout you pick, so there’s no single fixed size — Wix optimises each image down to the exact dimensions shown on screen. Use one aspect ratio across the set for an even layout, and leave the gallery image quality setting at or below 90.

What size should Wix product images be?

Wix Stores recommends a minimum resolution of 3000x3000 pixels for product images. The product page lets shoppers zoom in, so a smaller source looks blurry once magnified. Wix supports 16:9, 3:2, 4:3, 1:1, 3:4, 2:3 and 9:16 ratios for the product gallery, and recommends 1:1 (square) for mobile viewing. Use the same ratio for every product so the gallery stays even under either the Crop or Fit display setting.

Do I need separate images for mobile on Wix?

Usually not. Wix serves a device-sized version of the same upload, so mobile is a cropping decision rather than a second file. The Wix Editor lets you crop an image differently in the mobile view, and a mobile page background can take its own scale and scroll effect. In the Studio Editor the mobile breakpoint covers 320 to 750 pixels and you can set a focal point per breakpoint. Add a separate 1080x1920 image only when you want a mobile-only section — images added in the mobile editor are fully editable, while ones carried over from desktop are not.

What size is a Wix favicon?

A Wix favicon must be square and a multiple of 48 pixels — 48x48, 96x96 or 144x144 — unless you upload an SVG, which has no such rule. Accepted formats are ICO, PNG, JPG and SVG, and PNG lets you keep a transparent background. Google rescales favicons to 16x16 in search results, so use a single icon or initial with strong contrast rather than a full wordmark.

Does Wix compress my images?

Yes. Wix compresses every uploaded image and serves optimised versions through its CDN, including AVIF, which it describes as roughly 50% smaller than WebP. You don’t need to convert files yourself — upload a clean JPG or PNG master at the right dimensions, under the 50MB per-image limit, and let Wix generate the versions each device needs.
